- 1). Convert the hour portion of each entry of your time card to a 24-hour figure (military time). For "p.m." times beginning with 1 p.m., add 12 to each of the hour figures. For example, 2:00 p.m. becomes 14:00; 10:00 a.m. remains 10:00 a.m.
- 2). Divide the minute portion of each time entry on your time card by 60. This creates a decimal figure. Leave the hours alone. For example, if you have a punch-in time of 8:24, divide 24 by 60, which yields 0.40. So in decimal form, your punch-in time is 8.40.
- 3). Subtract the punch-in time from the punch-out time for each day as you would normal decimal figures. Suppose your punch-in time is 8:24, and your punch-out time is 13:06 (the conversion for 1:06 p.m.). Using Step 2, 8:24 becomes 8.40, and 13:06 becomes 13.10. Subtract 8.40 from 13.10. The result is 4.7 hours worked.
- 4). Add the totals together to get your total hours for the time card. For instance, if you have shifts of 5.10, 6.25, 4.00 and 3.20 on the card, that adds up to 18.55 hours worked.
- 5). Multiply the total hours worked in Step 4 by your hourly wage to see what your gross wage will be. Expanding on Step 4, if your wage is $12.00 per hour and you worked 18.55 hours, the gross wage is $226.60.
