- 1). Reduce your flower decor to save big bucks for your reception. Buy flowers that are available locally and in season if you must have them. Think about substituting flowers with other decorative items such as candles, colored stones and spray-painted branches.
- 2). Frame photos of famous married couples and use them as you centerpieces. Place trivia cards on tables basing questions on popular celebrity couples to keep guests entertained while you're taking photos or while they are waiting on the buffet line.
- 3). Hang white string lights around the space for an elegant look. Hang lights in key areas such as at the DJ stand or cake table. Hang lights in a straight line such as following the edge or drape lights or bundle them random.
- 4). Fill vases with water and place floating tea lights inside for an intimate evening reception. Fill vases with fruits that complement your wedding scheme such as lemons or limes for a spring wedding or mini pumpkins and squash for an autumn event.
- 5). Burn candles to fill empty spaces. Place anything flammable in a safe area out of harm's way and out of access from young children. Set candles on pillars, mantles and on the corners of high tables.
- 6). Finish your decorative cost-saving tricks by committing to low-lighting at your reception; the less they can see, the less you have to decorate. Close in your reception space if you have a large room by bringing tables closer together and making the space intimate. Avoid large open-air space which will appear barren with little decor.
