- 1). Sketch out your ideas for your Web page layout on paper. Decide where you want things on the page. Keep in mind how much space you have to work with based on the resolution of your page (1024 x768, 800 x 600...).
- 2). Load any images that you want to use in your layout onto your computer. Save them all to the same folder.
- 3). Open Photoshop CS3. Select "File" from the menu and click "New." In the dialog the opens, make the width and height (in pixels) what you want for the page. Click "OK."
- 4). Select the "Paint Bucket" tool from the toolbar on the left and use it to fill the canvas with the color you want for the background of your page.
- 5). Use the "Pen" and "Shape" tools (set the "Fill" with the color of your choice) to create the various shapes on your layout, such as the buttons and the banner box.
- 6). Select "File" and click "Open." In the dialog that opens, browse to the folder that to saved your images to and open the first one you want to use. Then use the "Copy" and "Paste" function under "Edit" to place the image in the layout document, positioning it where you want it. Repeat this step to bring in all the images.
- 7). Select the "Text" tool and use it to add the text you want for your page, such as for the banner and buttons.
- 8). Select the "Slice" tool form the toolbar and use it to cut the layout into sections. Anything that will be clickable, like a button or banner, should have it's own slice. Right-click on each slice and click "Properties." Name the slice and (if it is clickable) add the URL address it connects to.
- 9). Select "File" and click "Save fro Web or Devices." In the dialog that opens, choose GIF for the image type and click "Save." Name the file, and Photoshop will save out a folder containing the sliced images and an HTML file with your layout.
