- 1). Plug your guitar into an amp and turn it on. Put the toggle switch in the straight up position and play the guitar. If you hear sound coming out of the amp then put the toggle switch in the forward position.
- 2). Play the guitar and listen. If you hear no sound, the pickup is bad. If you hear sound but it is crackly or has static, the pickup has a problem.
- 3). Push the switch to the back position and play the guitar. If you hear no sound, the pickup is bad. If you hear sound that is crackly or has static, the pickup has a problem.
- 4). Put the toggle switch in the straight up position if you have a guitar with three pickups. Play the guitar. While the guitar is ringing out, move the toggle switch rapidly between the forward, backward and middle positions. If you hear a hollow sound, the volume drops off or is crackly when the pickup is in the straight up position, the middle pickup is bad or has a problem.
