- Finding Star Wars video games that are well-suited for kids can be a daunting task because there are literally dozens of these games to choose from. Many Star Wars themed games are best-suited for teenagers or adults, but there are several games that are designed specifically for younger players. When shopping for games for young children, look for the video game rating on the box. The rating will tell you which age group the game is appropriate for.
- There have been three Lego Star Wars video games released: Lego Star Wars, which covers Episodes I, II and III (the prequels), Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy, which covers Episodes IV, V and VI, and Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga, which combines the two trilogies. All three games are rated Everyone 10+ and provide similarly light-hearted action-adventure scenes that mimic the events of the films. All three of the games were well-received by critics and the gameplay mechanics are designed to be accessible for younger players.
Unfortunately, these games are not available for every game console. Lego Star Wars is available for the PC, PlayStation 2, Xbox, GameCube and GameBoy Advance. Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy can be found for the PC, PS2, PSP, Xbox 360, Xbox, Nintendo DS, GameCube and GameBoy Advance. Finally, Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga is available for the PC, PS3, Xbox 360, Nintendo DS and Nintendo Wii. - Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron for the Nintendo DS is an action/adventure game that places you in the role of a clone commander called X2 as he helps Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan battle against the Empire. Along the way you will also fight against Rancors, Sith Witches and even Boba Fett. This game is also rated Everyone 10+ and includes a 4-person multi-player mode in addition to the single-player campaign. The controls are designed for younger players.
- There are also two games based on the animated movie and series The Clone Wars that may be worth looking into. Like the show they are based on, these games take place between Episodes II and III and share the artistic style of the animated series. The first game, Star Wars The Clone Wars: Lightsaber Duels, puts a lightsaber in your hand and allows you to fight as one of the iconic Jedi in order to defeat General Grievous, Count Dooku and the Sith assassin Asajj Ventress. This is essentially a fighting game which can be played in single-player mode or against a friend in challenge mode on either the Nintendo Wii or the Nintendo DS.
- Star Wars The Clone Wars: Republic Heroes is also based on the animated series. This is an action/adventure platform that allows you to play as Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker and his padawan Ahsoka Tano, as well as the clone trooper Cody and the Jedi Plo Koon and Luminara Unduli, characters who are voiced by the same actors from the show. You can also expect to confront Count Dooku, Asajj Ventress and the bounty hunter Cad Bane. Republic Heroes is available for the PC, PS2, PS3, PSP, Xbox 360, Nintendo DS and the Nintendo Wii.
