- 1). Lay out the 3-yard-long piece of fabric. This can be any type of animal print, such as leopard, zebra or tiger. Be sure it is folded in half, with the fold at the top and the opening at the bottom. This allows the fold to serve as the strap without having to sew a seam later.
Since this is a basic cave woman costume, exact measurements are not required, but approximate measurements make the costume construction easier. Use a cloth tape measure to get the length of the dress. Place the end of the tape measure at your shoulder and measure down to the desired bottom of the dress.
Allow for a few extra inches in the fabric before cutting the excess off. These extra inches can be trimmed once the entire dress is constructed, but are helpful if a longer dress is desired or if you have curves that require extra fabric to cover. - 2). Create the neckline of the dress. Many cave women dresses have one shoulder strap and the neckline angles down to the armpit. To create this look, mark the top of the dress with pins at an angle from the left shoulder down to the armpit on the right side. Allow for 2 to 3 inches of fabric to remain intact on the left side to serve as the strap.
When the marked cutting line is at the desired location, cut the fabric off the dress. This should leave room for your head as well as a strap on the fold of the left shoulder. Now that the rough neckline is created, slip the costume over your head to measure the sides. Pin snugly under the right armpit. The snug fit is what holds the dress up on that side since there is no strap.
Once the right side is secured, pin the left seam of the dress directly across from the seam on the right. Secure the seams close around the chest, waist and hips to show your curves. This adds to the sexiness of the cave woman dress. - 3). Once the sides of the dress are pinned, carefully get out of the dress. Turn the garment inside out and sew along the pin line. Trim any excess fabric at the seam. There should be about an inch of fabric along the seam, but any more will bulk up the dress.
- 4). Cut the bottom in a suggestive way to make the dress sexier. Make jagged triangular fringe all along the bottom that can be cut high to show more of the leg. Another sexy way to trim the dress is to cut the bottom short and include a thigh-high slit, allowing more of the leg to be exposed.
Wear a black bra underneath the garment o make the costume even sexier. Cut the neckline to sweep low to the right side, exposing a portion of the bra. A belt created of the same material as the dress can also be worn to highlight the waist.
