- 1). Download a free video conversion program if you do not have one. Choose from free conversion programs such as Prism or AVC Video Converter.
- 2). Launch your program after completing the installation. Click the "Add Video," or "Add Files" button depending on the program you are using. This launches the file-opening dialog box. Select the video you want to downsize from the folder that you saved it in, then click "Open" to import to the media conversion program.
- 3). Click the "Play" button to preview your input video clip and ensure that it is the right video that you want to downsize. When you are satisfied, select the video format you want to use in the "Profile," or "Output Format" box. If you want to keep the same format, select the current format your input video is in.
- 4). Select a smaller video size in the "Resolution" box. For example, if your video is 720x480, select a smaller resolution such as 320x240 or 640x480. A smaller resolution greatly reduces the video size without diminishing the output quality.
- 5). Select the audio quality settings that you want to use in the "Audio" section. Select "Stereo," or "2 channels" in the "Channels" section. depending on the program that you are using.
- 6). Click the "Convert," or "Encode" button. Your media conversion program compresses the video and reduces the overall size. When the process completes, locate your reduced video and launch it to preview.
