In my biblical research, I find that identifying who is this great whore called Mystery Babylon is perhaps the easiest thing to figure out for anybody doing a Bible study on Revelations 17.
Anybody studying the book of Revelation for the first time will find it just as easy if they apply the following steps: a.
Accept the Bible solution for this symbol precisely as given in the scriptures, b.
Match the description of this symbol in other passages of Revelations with what you see in Revelations 17, and c.
Use the solution to the symbol to figure out which entity on earth who alone matches this description.
When you arrive at your conclusion, you are going to find that it is not so popular with many in our society today, especially those who seem to relish the modern version of Christianity.
Nevertheless, the overwhelming evidences will be on your side.
Did you know that there was a time when the view that Mystery Babylon is the religion of Rome was very commonplace? And so widespread was it that it is included as a standard definition in the 1974 edition of the Oxford Concise Dictionary! It seems as if the identification of this apostate religious entity is so critical in any Bible study on Revelations 17 that the Lord has made it so easy even for the common man in the street to figure out.
According the scriptures she will reign over the kings of the earth and made the world drunk with the wine of her fornication (Rev 17:2, 18).
This is a clear indication that she will use her position at the helm to force her false religion upon the people.
Thus, the world will be made drunk with the wine of her fornication.
Therefore, we can look forward to a resurgence of the religion of Rome at some point in the future.
With regard to the imagery of this woman sitting on the beast with seven heads and ten horns, many students of end-time prophecy are suggesting that both the woman and the beast are the representation of the same entity.
But this position is untenable for the very reason that the Bible gives separate interpretations for each symbol.
If the woman means something, and the beast means another thing, it cannot be that the woman and the beast are the same.
What it clearly depicts is an association of the beast with the woman.
You can easily pick that up in your Bible study on Revelations 17.
The Bible also teach that this woman will persecute; she is said to be "drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus" (Rev.
17:3).
The religion of Rome will be so intent on having her way in this world that she is going to seek to rid the earth of those who practice their religion contrary to her dictates.
It is interesting to note that the saints with whose blood the woman was drunken are said to be "martyrs of Jesus".
This clearly indicates that the religion of Rome, despite her present profession, will at some point in the future rise up in direct opposition to Christ! Many Christians do not know that it was never Rome's intention to become Christian.
In fact, Rome was always a pagan society; she has not changed.
Emperor Constantine of Rome merely pretended to become Christian because he wanted to control Christianity through compromise with paganism.
After Constantine got baptized, he was still a devotee to the Sun god.
But because Christianity was doing great exploits; because they were making significant inroads into the ranks of paganism, despite the waging of a bitter persecution against the early church, Rome decided to change her strategy.
And the result: the Christian faith was compromised! In my e-book I have demonstrated how this great whore of Revelation 17 will spearhead the new religious order that will be introduced in our world in the not-too-distant-future.
