How to Dry a Statice Flower

    • 1). Cut the statice blooms, along with the long stems, on a dry, sunny day. Choose bright, healthy blooms that are just about to open, and cut the blooms with sharp pruners.

    • 2). Strip the leaves from the statice stems. If you're drying a large amount of statice, wear a pair of gloves, hold the stem in one hand, and run your hand down the stems quickly with the other hand.

    • 3). Gather the statice together in groups of 10 to 20 stems, and bind the stems together with a rubber band. Avoid using string. Rubber bands will keep the stems together as they dry and shrink.

    • 4). Hang the statice bunches upside down from a hook or a nail in a dry, warm, well-ventilated room such as an attic or closet. Leave the statice bunches until the blooms dry completely, which can take three to five weeks depending on the moisture in the flowers and the temperature in the room.

    • 5). Wrap dried statice loosely in newspaper and store the flowers in a cardboard box. Or, layer the dried statice in a cardboard box with tissue paper between each layer, no more than three layers deep. Seal the box to keep pests out, and store the box of dried statice in a cool, dry place. Never store dried statice in plastic.
