- 1). Prune branches smaller than 1/4 inch in diameter with sharp hand pruning shears.
- 2). Prune branches between 1/4 inch and 1 1/2 inches in diameter with sharp lopping shears.
- 3). Saw off larger canes with a pruning saw.
- 4). Cut back the bamboo culms as low as desired, right above a node to prevent leaving a stub.
- 5). Prune off lower branches and any old or unsightly branches. Trim the side branches back to make the plant look balanced. Always cut just before a node.
