The first thing to do towards prospering in a bad economy is to get your eyes off your problems and the problems of the economy.
We do not have to accept a bad report.
We can do what I like to call the Hezekiah effect.
What is the Hezekiah effect? It is found in Second Kings chapter two.
I will give a summary of the event.
The Lord told the prophet Isaiah to go and tell Hezekiah that he was going to die.
Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to God.
Before the prophet got out of the courtyard, God spoke to him again and said, "Go tell Hezekiah that I have added fifteen more years to his life".
The Hezekiah effect is, not to receive what you hear or see.
Things are always subject to change and through prayer Hezekiah changed his circumstance.
We can change what we see or hear through prayer the way Hezekiah did.
God heard his prayer and had compassion upon him; He will do the same for us because He is not a respecter of person.
We can change our circumstances by several ways.
We can make our petition know to God.
Psalm 20:4 says may He grant you according to your hearts desire and fulfill all your purpose.
Two things to remember about making our petition to God, one is, not to be double minded and do not continue asking.
James 1:6-7 says but let him ask in faith with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind.
For let not that man supposes that he will receive anything from the Lord.
We need to be certain of what we want the Lord to do for us and stick to it or be settle in it.
Do not constantly ask for what we want, ask only once then thank Him for it the rest of the time.
If we continue asking it will always nullify the first and that means that there was some doubt in our asking the first time we asked.
God is not hard of hearing; He is able to hear us even before we ask.
Therefore, we only need to ask once for what we want, and then we thank Him and continue to thank Him for it until it is manifested.
We can remind Him of His word by speaking it back to Him.
He honors His word and He will perform it.
However, what we desire must be in line with His word.
He will not honor His word if our heart is not right.
We can determine if our prayer request is line up with His word by what Philippians 4:8 said it said, finally brethren whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy meditate on these things.
Therefore, if our desires fall in line with any of the above, then we can have confidence that the Lord will hear us.
Proverb 3:5-6 says trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding: In all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your paths.
God will make our way prosperous if we would obey His voice.
He is not moved by the condition of the economy, all the gold and silver is His and He has cattle on a thousand hills.
He is able to provide for us in good times and in bad times because there is no difference in the two with Him because there is no lack in Him.
God has promised us that if we are willing and obedient we shall eat the good of the land.
In a bad economy, there is still something good in it and if we are obedient to the Lord, we will find it.
