It sure is getting cold here in North Carolina which always gets me excited about the holidays! Halloween will be here before you know it, it's only a week away.
Each year I absolutely love going to my door and seeing the adorable and sometimes funny costumes that everyone is wearing, and this year is no exception.
Taking photos at Halloween or any other special time of the year is important, but it's not always easy to make sure you accurately document the night.
Instead, it's much more likely that you just snap a couple of photos of the children in their costumes and are on your way to trick or treat.
But I want you toreally capture the spirit of the night! So today I'm sharing with you 3 tips to make sure you create the perfect photo memories of your children this Halloween...
1.
Snap photos while getting ready- This one may or may not be obvious to you, it's actually quite easy to overlook because we are usually just thinking about taking photos in full costume.
One of the most exciting times of the night I can remember as a kid was when I was getting ready! Especially if it involves putting on makeup or if there are a lot of different pieces in the costume.
Take photos of each stage of the process to show your children gradually transforming into character.
2.
Pose in character/act the part- OK this is one that I really love! How many photos do you have of you or your children standing in their costumes and smiling at the camera? Don't get me wrong there is nothing wrong with these photos, in fact I definitely encourage you to take some like this.
But what about taking photos in character? We want to see a werewolf growl and look menacing and a fairy godmother waving her wand to make wishes come true.
These photos are the ones that really capture the magic of the night and are great to look back on and display.
3.
Capture your Halloween traditions- What traditions do you have each year? I can remember a few growing up! I always laid out all my candy on the table when I got home.
Some siblings trade candy to get more of the kind they like.
Or maybe you always set out to trick or treat as the sun goes down? More than likely you have a few traditions each year.
Photos in costumes are great and definitely a must, but it's so important to capture these memories as well so that you will always remember how the night unfolded.
I really hope that these 3 tips help you perfectly capture your family's Halloween this year.
