Good Ideas for Color Mixing for a Bedroom

    Art-Inspired Matches

    • Take inspiration from a piece of art when selecting your room hues. Buy a print of a piece of classic art that you particularly enjoy, such as Monet's "Waterlilies" or Van Goh's "Starry Night." Select some hues directly from the painting that you wish to pull out. Use paint swatches to choose a paint color that is a perfect match. Paint one wall a dominant hue found in the print, and place the print itself on this accent wall. Paint the other walls in a more neutral yet still complimentary tone. Echo these same hues in your bed linens.

    Earthy Combinations

    • Give your room an eco-inspired feel if the great outdoors holds the key to your heart. Mix and match greens and browns of various values, selecting mossy greens to feature in your carpeting and deep chocolate browns for your bedding, for example. Use a variety of tones of these earthy hues to give your room the feel of nature itself, where greens and browns of various shades mix in abundance. To further accentuate your color choice, add some potted plants to the space.

    Beachy Hues

    • Regardless of whether you have the luxury of an ocean view from your bedroom, you can still give your room a beachy feel if what you like most of all is scrunching your toes in the sand. Select beached woods or whites to feature in your furniture. Use shades of blues and sandy yellows on your walls, perhaps dividing your wall and placing a dark blue on the bottom and sandy yellow on the top. Feature seashells and ocean-themed prints in your space to further accent the theme.

    Contemporary Contrasts

    • For a cool and contemporary space, choose hues that contrast significantly. Feature white and red in your bedroom, for example, creating a bold color combination that is pleasing to the eye. If selecting a design with a bold accent, purchase bed linens that feature both hues, buying a solid comforter in one color and accent pillows in another. Create a geometric pattern on one of your walls, taping off squares and rectangles to create a bold, attention-getting bedroom accent.
