- 1). Begin by washing your hands with antibacterial soap and warm water.
- 2). In a medium bowl or container, mix 2 tablespoons of white vinegar in 1 pint of water. Water temperature is not important. You can use tap, filtered, or bottled water.
- 3). Carefully pour the vinegar and water mixture into a spray bottle. A bottle with a fine mist setting works best. You may want to use a funnel to avoid spills.
- 4). Place the produce you want to wash into a colander in your sink or on a clean towel on a countertop or table.
- 5). Spray the produce with the vinegar solution, rotating the contents of the colander to make sure you saturate each piece.
- 6). Allow the solution to sit on the produce for 3 to 4 minutes. This will give the vinegar time to kill bacteria and eliminate impurities on the food.
- 7). Rinse the produce thoroughly with running water, rotating the colander contents to wash the vinegar solution off each piece.
- 8). Wash your hands once more with warm, soapy water.
