- 1). Unplug the trimmer if it is electric, or wait for the engine to cool if it is gas powered. Turn trimmer over, exposing the trimmer head where the monofilament line goes into the trimmer.
- 2). Push down on the spool head and twist counterclockwise. The spool head should then lift of the trimmer. Set it aside.
- 3). Thread the new monofilament line of desired size into the spool. There should be a small hole in the center or a notch to lock in the lead of the line. The thicker the monofilament, or trimmer line, is, the stronger the line will be. Chose a thin line for grass and a thicker one for tough weeds or small branches.
- 4). Wind the line in a clockwise direction around the spool. Keep the lines straight as they go around the spool to avoid jams during use. Continue until you have reached the top of the spool flange.
- 5). Insert the end of the line through the feeder hole located in the spool. Reattach the spool head by pushing and twist clockwise. Plug in trimmer, or turn gas powered engine on to test the new line.
