Maintaining Your Lawn Mower

Many people say that all power tools and electrical equipment break over time.
Well, this is true if you do not take care of the equipment.
If you are able to maintain your tools, there will be no need to replace them, ever.
When it comes to a lawn mower, like other tools, the lawn mower needs the same attention when it comes to maintaining the machine.
The great thing is that you do not have to go out of control trying to keep the machine in good shape.
Your first and main priority when it comes to maintaining your lawn mower is to try to prevent problems.
You must drain your machine once a year after the fall (autumn).
If this is not done, your mower might not be able to work by the time spring comes.
The preferred method is to run your lawn mower completely dry after the last job.
If you find yourself draining the lawn mower's tank, then use that fuel and pour it into your car's tank.
This will not harm the car and it is a great way of getting rid of wasted fuel.
Many companies would suggest you change the oil in your mower once a year, preferably every spring.
This is an easy task.
Leaving the oil in for two years should be fine, but do not let it go for longer.
Air filters are cheap and replacing these can be easy.
Also make sure you have a spare in the workshop and the right one according the instructions.
Air filters should be replaced every couple of years.
Spark plugs are well-known for wearing out.
What causes these to wear out is the stale fuel that you leave in the mower.
If your oil filters and air filters are blocked this can also affect the spark plug's performance.
It would be in your best interest to replace your mower's spark plug four times a year.
Your lawn mower blades are responsible for cutting the grass and these should be replaced once a year.
Others would be recommended to replace these after two years, but once a year is better.
Whenever you cut the grass, clippings are collected on the underside of the mower.
Many neglect to clean this area of the lawn mower.
If this is not done, the accumulation of the grass clippings can impede the blades' movements when you are trying to get the mower started.
Use a paint scraper to scrape away debris after each job.
