1. Suit jackets with short-shorts instead of trousers
I don’t understand the practical application of the suit jacket and matching shorts which has been seen in many designer collections lately. Sure the schoolboy look is cute with a shirt, tie and knee high stockings, but for adults? I know a Vice President of a major local bank who told me that one of the bank employees wore this outfit to work one day and no one knew what to make of it.
I can understand why.
2. Belted jackets and coats
One blogger wrote “the only possible point of a belt on a jacket that already has a zipper and/or button is to add definition to your waistline. In my opinion, men need not worry about accentuating their curves.” I couldn’t have said it better myself since every time I see this feature I think the very same thing. Well, that and safari jackets from the British colonial era.
3. Skin tight peg-leg jeans
Even I have several pairs of skinny jeans, but the skin tight jean (and I mean skin tight all the way to the ankle) is a look I just don’t like on men. Not only do they look uncomfortable but when I tried a pair on for myself I realized that uncomfortable is putting lightly.
4. Crocs
I first heard about Crocs from my sister. This was years ago when she liked wearing them on her vacations in Hawaii, and according to her they were the perfect beach shoe. She would buy them in Hawaii and her whole family would come back wearing them. Then, to my horror, I started seeing them on people all over the place.
Soon they were unavoidable. For the beach, gardening and other such casual things I understand their appeal, but not for running around town.
5. Strong cologne
I recently had a friend visit me from France who wore so much fragrance that it made people want to run for fresh air. College age guys have a tendency to get a little overzealous with the colognes as well. I went to a university bookstore to pick up a particular book and was reminded of this fact. Always remember a little goes a long way.
6. Train engineer caps
I love hats on men, but not this kind. I can’t help but think train engineer or civil war soldier.
