- 1). Insert your DVD movie for backup into your computer's disc drive.
- 2). Double-click the DVD Shrink shortcut on your desktop. Wait for the program to load.
- 3). Click the "Open Disc" button in the upper left-hand corner of the screen. This brings up a new dialogue window. Make sure the correct disc drive is selected in the drop-down menu (for example, "E:\") and press the "OK" button. A progress bar will appear as the disc is accessed, and you have an option to get a visual preview.
- 4). Press the "Backup!" button along the top toolbar and watch a new dialogue box appear. Under the "target device" tab, click on the drop-down menu under "Select backup target:" and select "Hard Disk Folder." In the blank field under "Select target folder for DVD output files," choose a convenient place on your hard drive with sufficient storage space, for example, "C:\DVD\Movie Title\." Press "OK." A new progress bar will appear as the disc is backed up to your hard drive.
- 5). Close DVD Shrink by pressing "ALT" and "F4" at the same time. Navigate to the location where you stored the backup movie by opening "My Computer." Double-click on "DVD" and "Movie Title" (or the folder you created). You'll see a list of files.
- 6). Find the largest .VOB file by arranging the files by size. Do this by right-clicking in the window, highlighting "Sort by" from the context menu, then clicking on "Size." The largest file will be at the top of your list now, and it should start with the letters "VTS."
- 7). Right-click on the VOB file at the top of your screen. Select "Rename" from the context menu. Delete the "VOB" letters at the end of the file name and type "MPEG" to replace them. Press "Enter" on the keyboard. Now you have a MPEG version of your DVD movie.
