How to Make a Flapper Girl Halloween Costume

    • 1). Find a sleek sleeveless nightgown (chiffon or silk fabric) or even a dress in a vivid shade of color such as deep red, black, purple or metallic silver or gold. The flashier and bolder the nightgown, the better.

    • 2). Sew fringe onto the gown. Depending on the look you want, you have a few choices. If you want a subtle look that isn't too flashy, add fringe at the top and bottom of the gown. If you want a bold look with fringe that moves when you do, layer the fringe on the entire dress, starting at the top and working all the way down to the bottom seam. Do this by using a glue gun to attach fringe along the width of the dress. If you want a durable dress that will be used for more than one night, it's best to sew the fringe to the fabric instead.

    • 3). Sew a sequin fringe around the arm holes of the dress if you like.

    • 4). Create the flapper headpiece. Attach sequins to an elastic headband with the glue gun. Or if you are short on time, buy a premade headband that is covered in sequins. The headband should be worn over your hair and fit snugly on the width of your head without slipping underneath your hair.

    • 5). Sew a long bright feather or a cluster of feathers to your headband to give the headpiece more flash. Use hot glue to attach the feather to the inside of the headband. Position the feather as you desire such as to the left, right or in the center of your headpiece.

    • 6). Wear your flapper gown and slip on your headband. Add extras to your costume such as black fishnet stockings. Add an accessory such as a few long necklaces of pearly beads that reach down to your hips. Slip on a glitzy garter up to your mid-thigh to draw attention to your legs. Add more elegance to your look by wearing a pair of elbow-high silk gloves that match the color of your gown. Slip on a pair of close-toed shoes. Drape a boa over your shoulders.

    • 7). Wear flapper makeup. Wear a lipstick in a deep hue such as red or purple. Play up your cheeks with a bright rosy blush. Create dramatic eyes with a black eyeliner and a lot of mascara. Create a beauty mark right on your upper cheek if you like.
