The Chevrolet S10 is a compact truck manufactured by the General Motors Corporation. Introduced in 1982 to replace the Isuzu-built Chevy LUV, it was available in the standard single-cab model with a six-foot bed that included a 1.9L, four-cylinder engine with an optional V-6 version. The S10 was discontinued in 2004; the 1982 original model has become popular among the mini-truck custom-vehicle enthusiasts. - The 1982 Chevy S10 was available in three different trim levels: standard, Sport and the top-of-the-line Durango. Standard features included rear-wheel drive, four-speed transmission, bench seating and dual side-view mirrors. In addition, the front of the vehicle included rectangular headlights, amber-colored corner lights and a grille designed with three rows of six rectangular segments with the Chevy symbol in the center. A chrome front grille was also available as an additional option.
- The standard engine for the 1982 Chevy S10 was the 1.9L, four-cylinder model that produced 84 horsepower and up to 101 foot-pounds of torque. The optional 2.8L, six-cylinder version offered up to 110 horsepower with 148 foot-pounds of torque. In addition to the standard four-speed manual transmission, an optional three-speed automatic and a five-speed manual version were also available. The manual transmission version utilized a rod-linkage clutch system.
- The four-cylinder, four-speed manual transmission models ranged from 28 miles per gallon in the city to 40 mpg on the highway while the five-speed manual version offered between 30 mpg in the city to 43 mpg on the highway. The six-cylinder, four-speed manual transmission models ranged from 17 mpg in the city to 34 mpg on the highway with the five-speed models offering between 22 mpg in the city to 34 mpg on the highway. The four-cylinder automatic transmission models offered 25 mpg in the city and up to 34 mpg on the highway while the six-cylinder automatic transmission versions ranged from 16 mpg in the city to 33 mpg on the highway.
