- 1). Place the food into the stoneware crock, filling it at least halfway but no more than two-thirds full. If cooking meats and vegetables, add the veggies to the bottom and place the meat on top. Add some liquid such as broth or water for meats; liquid helps transfer heat to the meat better.
- 2). Place the crock into the slow cooker unit, and cover the crock with the lid. Plug the unit into the wall.
- 3). Press the "On/Off" button and set the desired cooking time with the "+" or "-" buttons, which adjust the time in 30 minute increments. The time will flash on the LCD screen until the cooking mode is selected. Reset the time by pressing the "+" and "-" buttons at the same time.
- 4). Select the cooking mode of "high" or "low". The slow cooker should beep once, and the light should turn on to indicate that cooking has begun. A good rule of thumb is that the "low "setting takes about twice as long to cook things as the "high" setting. After the time has expired, your slow cooker should stop cooking and switch to a hold or warming mode.
- 5). Check the food inside the slow cooker for doneness, and serve.
