Dance teams of any age enjoy encouragement and they like to see themselves displayed at their studios. Dance teachers can work to create colorful, creative bulletin boards that will inspire, inform and entertain team members. These bulletin boards can be modified to fit any age or variety of dance. - Younger dancers might enjoy a star theme to help show their progress through the season. There are several ways to incorporate stars on a bulletin board. Cover a large bulletin board with blue paper to represent the night sky. Cut stars from cardboard and staple or paste them to the board. Each dancer should have two stars. At the beginning of the dance team's competitive season, take a picture of each student demonstrating her favorite dance move. Staple these "before" pictures to a star. At the end of the season, take another picture of each student either doing the same move or, possibly, her new favorite move or position. Paste the new picture on a star near the "before" star. This way students can note their progress. If students don't have a competitive season, use any time frame. A school year might work well to show dancers' progress.
- Dance studios and teams can encourage dancers to join their group with an "Imagine Yourself on our Team" bulletin board. This board uses a photo-editing program like Photoshop. If this isn't available, scissors will do. Gather about a dozen pictures of team members dancing throughout the season. With photo-editing software, delete one or two dancers in each picture but keep their clothes in the picture to create an eerie, invisible effect. If this software isn't available, use scissors to cut out dancers for the same effect. Once they're pasted on a bulletin board, these pictures will creatively allow prospective team members to imagine themselves on the dance team.
- A large call-board can help inform current students of their dance routines. This is particularly useful after auditions. Indiana University of Pennsylvania, for instance, has three types of call-boards for its dance team: classes in progress, information on the dance theater and general dance information, including auditions.
