Caulking That Can Be Applied Below 40 Degrees

    GE RTV100 Silicone Caulk

    • General Electric, a leader in 100 percent silicone caulk and products, produces a line of RTV100 silicone caulks. RTV stands for "room temperature vulcanization." This pure silicone product remains flexible down to temperatures below 0 degrees Fahrenheit. The caulk cures as a result of its exposure to moisture and can be cleaned up while wet with distilled paint thinner.

    Polyethylene and Polyurethane Low-Temperature Caulk

    • Polyethylene and polyurethane caulking compound is engineered from petroleum-based products rather than acrylic and latexes. Poly-based caulks are ready to use and can be purchased in the traditional caulking tubes or in resealable containers. Poly caulks work well when applied directly from a caulking gun. This non-staining joint sealant forms a solid film that remains flexible and highly resistant to tearing or decomposition in the extreme conditions. This caulk is designed for a wide variety of ceiling and caulking jobs, including caulking around windows and doors, and filling expansion joints in concrete, brick and stone surfaces.

    Everflex Quick Set Structural Sealant

    • Everflex is an exterior grade, quick curing structural sealant and adhesive. The product is available in traditional caulking tubes and can be applied down to negative 20 degrees F. This cold weather caulk is designed and recommended for cold weather sealing of construction projects and low-temperature attachment of snow guards to roofs when applied during the winter seasons. Everflex is also useful with metal construction, including truck body assembly and metal siding sealing in cold temperatures, because of its rapid cure time. The product is nonflammable. However it is not recommended for concrete, marble or stone.

    BOSS RTVSilicone Sealant

    • RTV silicones are the one type of 100 percent silicone products that can be applied in low temperatures. The BOSS brand RTV silicones are highly durable and will adhere to most surfaces. The product creates a tough rubber film as it cures when exposed to the surrounding air. Boss RTV silicones will not sag, which means they can be applied vertically or horizontally. Boss silicone will adhere to all surfaces, including metal, glass, wood and stone.
