1Open the Windows Media Player 11 download site in your web browser (see Resources). Click the "Continue" button. Download the plug-in on the next page to allow Windows to verify that your copy of Windows XP is authentic. Your computer must be running on an authentic copy of Windows XP to proceed with the download.

Install the plug-in by opening the downloaded file. Follow the on-screen prompts to finish installation. Click "Continue" on the Windows Media Player 11 site once you have completed installing the plug-in.

Click the "Download" button when you are redirected to the download page. Choose "Save File" when the prompt appears. Choose a location to save the application to proceed. Wait for the application to finish downloading from the Microsoft website.

Locate the downloaded application file according to the location you selected to download it to. Double-click the file to open it. Select "Run" to begin the installation.

Validate your copy of Windows XP by selecting the "Validate" button when prompted for validation. Microsoft will now authenticate your operating system. Once your operating system is validated, click "I Accept" to agree to the Windows Media Player 11 license agreement. Click "Next" to being the installation process.

Wait for your computer to finish installing Windows Media Player 11. Refrain from using your computer while the installation is in process. When the installation is complete, select the default settings for Windows Media Player 11. You can select "Express Settings," which is the default setting configuration, or you can select "Custom Settings," which allows you to manually configure the player's settings. Choose your settings and select "Finish." Windows Media Player 11 will open and automatically import any media files on your computer.
