Dog Itching But No Fleas?

First and foremost you must determine the primary cause of the itching.
These are some of the most common causes dog itching: Fleas Diagnosing a flea infestation is fairly straight forward and obvious, but one that needs to be considered and inspected for first.
A quick visual inspection of your dogs skin should eliminate or identify this as the culprit.
If fleas are identified, there are a number of over the counter flea medications and baths that will eliminate fleas from your dog.
Mange Mange is a skin disease that is caused by microscopic mites that come to make a home in your dog's skin.
These little mites can cause very severe itching and hair loss as well.
To properly diagnose mange, a skin scraping and inspection under a microscope will be needed.
If it is determined that mange is your dog's itching problem, then your vet can prescribe a medication or you can try some safer alternatives such as human grade supplements that have shown results in this area.
Psychological Psychological issues can be and most often are the hardest to properly diagnose and treat.
Primarily these issues have to do with some sort of anxiety that is plagueing your dog.

The conditions below account for the vast majority of dog itching causes and can often be treated the easiest as well.

There is a lot more effort put into the taste and marketing of dog food than in actually creating a quality dog food with the optimal dietary requirements for your dog.
Allergies There are many different factors that can cause allergies in your dog.
As in humans, dogs can be allergic to some of the same items that we are such as dust, mold and pollen.
I know it will be next to impossible to eliminate airborne substances, but there are some things you can do to minimize their exposure.
You can use hypoallergenic air filters in the house as well as minimize there outside exposure during peak allergy seasons.
Or even simpler, there have been case studies that have shown a quality dog vitamin has been somewhat effective in reducing allergy symptoms by way of boosting the immune system.
Probably the most common and often overlooked causes of dog allergies is directly related to the dog food they consume.
Just as in our case, food allergies are very prevalent in dogs as well.
This could potentially be solved as easily as changing your dog's food.
As most vets and dog health professionals agree, the first and foremost thing to be considered is the proper diet and nutrition of your dog.
Providing high quality dog foods containing plenty of good sources of protein, and that are low in meat by products and grains will ensure that your dog has a boosted immune system and healthy digestive system.
Supplementing your dogs diet with a quality dog vitamin will ensure that your dog will have the optimum dietary requirements to maintain a healthy immune defense against allergies and a whole host of other ailments as well.
