I learned very early in my life how important it is to be organized in the kitchen.
If you are organized in the kitchen it can help you when you prepare your meals.
Cooking can be something you enjoy, if you are not fighting or struggling to find the necessary utensils.
Whether you have a huge kitchen with all the fancy newest equipment or a small kitchenette, you will find that you will want to keep it organized.
Below are some tips to keep your kitchen organized and the preparation of the food done in an efficient manner: 1) You should keep your utensils in a place that is located near to your cutting area and the cooking area.
This was best illustrated to me when I was talking to a mechanic, and he was showing me how his tools had to be placed in specific places in and around his tool box.
He told me that every tool had to be in a specific place so he would not waste time looking for it.
He should be able to reach into a drawer and pick out the tool he needed without looking.
This should be your ultimate goal when you lay out your knives, spoons, utensils, etc that you will be using in your kitchen.
Put the items that you will use the most often closest to you and work your way out from there.
2) Spices are very important, they are probably the second most used item in your list, so keep them close to your work area.
I keep them in a cupboard just in front of me, so I can open the drawer and just grab what I need.
Again I try to organize the spice cupboard in the same manner that I do for the utensils, i.
e.
, salt, pepper, garlic, etc.
are the closest to the front of the spice cupboard.
Many people have a spice rack that they can move from one area of the kitchen to the other, I do not because they take up to much of my prep area, so I do not use a rack.
3) Cut your vegetables and other ingredients, and then put them in small bowl containers.
This is great because you can just throw the ingredients into their respective pots or pans when necessary.
Sometimes I have had to cook a meal on the fly, and have forgotten to put in the essential ingredient.
It is always best to have everything cut first, so you know that you have prepared everything ahead of time.
Having an organized kitchen will help you to be more efficient in the kitchen, and you can also do some experimenting with the cooking when you are free from a cluttered and disorganized kitchen.
