- 1). Search your closet or shop at a thrift shop for a brown knee-length skirt and a brown vest. Measure around the hem of the skirt. Cut a strip of the brown fabric the length of the hem and attach it to the underside of the skirt with iron-on hem tape. Cut slits in the fabric to make fringe. Attach colored beads to the fringe by pulling a section of the fringe through the hole in the bead and tying a knot at the bottom. Place as many beads as desired per fringe or place one on each section of fringe.
- 2). Measure the length of the vest around the bottom edge. Cut a strip of the brown fabric the same length. Attach it to the bottom-side of the vest with iron-on hem tape. Follow the same procedure for fringing as you did with the skirt. Attach beads all along the bottom.
- 3). Decorate a purchased brown elastic headband with fabric paint in any desired colors. Draw a pictograph, a picture or symbol used to represent an idea or a word, all around the outside of the band. Attach a single colorful feather or group of feathers to the back of the headband using a hot glue gun.
- 4). Complete the outfit with a long-sleeved white or brown blouse, a pair of brown moccasins, and a turquoise necklace, earrings and bracelet. Wear a string of brightly colored beads around your neck and a beaded ankle bracelet on both ankles.
