Choose an organization that accepts clothing donations. Some organizations, such as the Red Cross International, prefer monetary donations rather than material donations because of high shipping costs. Make sure the charity you choose accepts clothing donations before preparing and shipping the goods. Visit the links in the additional resources section to connect with aid organizations and learn more about making donations to China. - 2
Clean and inspect clothing. If you are donating used clothing, make sure it is clean and in good condition. Most organizations only accept new, like-new or gently-used clothing. Inspect clothing closely for tears, stains or other damage. - 3
Prepare clothing items for shipping or drop-off. If an organization near you accepts donations for China, it is likely they will do the packing and shipping. If you are sending the items to an organization in China, make sure you meet packing and shipping specifications. International postage rates vary, so you may want to use a shipping calculator to determine the best size and shape box to use. - 4). There are many foreign aid websites and instructions for specifically preparing donations once an organization is decided upon (see Resources).
