How many of you know a thing or two about investing? Maybe some of you have already started a 401k, bought a house, or began investing in stocks.
You may be an adult who is gliding successfully into your retirement years, anticipating all the fun things you will do with your time.
All of these are highly intelligent moves; setting yourself up to live a life of leisure during your golden years is very enticing! Here's where most retirement plans go terribly wrong: Most people, when planning for retirement, completely ignore or neglect the state of their health future.
Having loads of cash and a paid off house are no good if you aren't around to enjoy them! Travel plans, time spent with children and grandchildren, and new hobbies..
none of this will be possible if you do not maintain the health of your body and mind.
It All Starts and Ends with Health Remember, your health is your foundation; it is the cornerstone from which all other things are possible.
Ignoring your health, while focusing on other smaller issues, is living backwards.
It is like knowing that your car has major engine trouble, yet taking it to the dealership to get the leather seats refinished.
Once the engine blows, the fancy seats will be of little use.
Maybe you could lounge on them in the driveway! In the same way, your money is of no use without you around to spend it.
It's time that we all stop what we are doing, sit down, and have a little pow-wow with ourselves.
Fix your biggest issues before focusing on smaller, less important things.
It's only logical, and this is your life we're talking about here.
Dementia is NOT Age-Related Did you know that you don't have to end up like Grandpa Rivers one day? Just because other members of your family have gotten dementia means little for you.
Atherosclerosis is a condition where fatty substances from your diet collect along the arteries.
Over time they thicken and harden, causing heart attacks, strokes, and yes, dementia.
Decreased blood flow to the brain causes the brain cells to die.
The rate of dementia in the United States has increased right along with the rate of heart attack and heart disease; they are essentially one in the same.
Focusing on a healthy lifestyle, and in particular a healthy diet, will ward off dementia forever for you.
I have met many adults that were in their 90's, and a few centenarians (those that have lived to be over 100) who are just as sharp as you and I.
The only difference between them and those that died or lost cognitive ability 20 or 30 years earlier were minor; they ate different foods and were more active.
Let's take that advice! Just in the same way that you might sit down and go over your finances, create a budget, or plan for the future, I recommend that you sit down and plan out your health future.
What do you want it to look like? What steps will you take to make that happen? Now, what are you going to do on a day-by-day basis to incorporate healthy actions into your life? I know that being healthy can take up a lot of time.
At the end of a long work day, it isn't easy to shop for and cook a healthy meal, or to go on a 2 mile run.
How will you budget your time so that you can protect your most valuable asset in this whole picture, you? Thanks so much for reading, and by all means, leave your comments and suggestions down below! To the BEST of health, Brian
