- 1). Round the corners of the plywood sheet, cutting it to form a circle 3 feet in diameter.
- 2). Sand all faces of the plywood circle and all faces of the 4-by-4-inch posts.
- 3). Set the four posts on end in a square with the outside corners about 6 inches from the outside edge of the circle.
- 4). Trace the edges of each post with a pencil, marking a square on the plywood sheet. Remove the posts.
- 5). Drill four pilot holes in each square you've drawn, using a drill bit 1/8 inch narrower than your screws are wide. Position each hole 1 inch toward the center from one corner of the square. The four holes will form the corners of a smaller square.
- 6). Paint all faces of your lumber. You may want to invest in nontoxic paint specifically made for childrens' toys and rooms.
- 7). Attach each post to your plywood circle by driving four wood screws through the pilot hole and into the end of the post. Sink each screw so its head is below the surface of the plywood.
- 8). Putty over the heads of the screws. Once the putty dries, sand until it's smooth and level with the top of the table. Paint over to match the rest of the table.
- 1). Sand all faces of the remaining lumber, then paint and allow to dry.
- 2). Take four of your 2-by-2-by-12-inch beams, and arrange them in a square. Connect them with one screw per joint, driven through the face of one beam and into the end of the other.
- 3). Repeat step two to build a second square.
- 4). Attach the two squares using a 1-by-12-by-12-inch plank, forming the stool that will be the seat of the finished chair. Set the plank so its outside edges are flush with the outside edges of the square frames. Attach using one wood screw per corner, driven through the plank and into the frames beneath.
- 5). Attach a second 1-by-12-by-12-inch plank at 90 degrees to the first plank, also connecting the two square frames. This will form a front plate that sits behind the legs of the sitting occupant. It also acts as the front legs of the chair. Attach using one wood screw per corner, as with the first plank.
- 6). Attach a 1-by-12-inch-by-36-inch plank opposite the second 12-inch square plank so that it protrudes past the first 12-inch square plank, forming the back and back legs of the chair. Connect with one wood screw per corner, as with the other planks.
- 7). Putty, sand and paint over the screw heads as you did with the table.
- 8). Repeat steps one through six three more times for a total of four chairs.
