- 1). Read the abstract guidelines of the journal where the paper is to be published. Most journals restrict the word count of the abstract. In general the permissible length varies between 100 and 500 words. Do not exceed this limit or your paper may be returned for a rewrite, causing delays in publication.
- 2). Write the introduction to your research in no more than five sentences. Write down the main points from the introduction to your paper as an itemized list. Then go through this list and try to merge information in single sentences. You do not need to include all information here. Include the intention of the research work and how it was performed.
- 3). Write down the main results obtained in your research on a sheet of paper as an itemized list. This list must contain all the important quantitative and qualitative results you have found. Make your judgment on what results are important. Now, create a paragraph from this itemized list such that there is flow between the sentences. This should not be difficult since all the results you have obtained are connected in the sense that they relate to the topic of your research. Be as precise as possible and concentrate on the results while writing this part of the executive summary.
- 4). In no more than two sentences describe what you have concluded from the results you have obtained and what you suggest for future research on the topic. This part is not necessarily included by all authors and you can skip it if there is a long list of conclusions and suggestions.
