Ideas for Using Thread on an Invitation

    Glued Thread

    • Make a colorful invitation by using thread instead of paint. Cover the surface of the invitation with glue where you want to put the thread. Then press various colors of thread into the glue and let the glue dry. You can do this in an organized way by carefully placing the thread to create a picture, or just make a riot of color on the surface by tossing bits of thread randomly and gluing them in place. In addition to creating a colorful image, thread will cover your invitation with unusual textures that are more interesting than paint or magic markers.

    Scrolls Tied with Thread

    • Make your invitations out of thin paper that can easily be rolled up into a scroll, and then tie the scroll with thread. Create colorful cords to tie the scrolls with by intertwining different colors of thread to make thicker homemade string. Tie the scroll in the center with a big bow, or make it more secure by tying it at both ends. Make an unusual scroll by winding your thread all the way down the scroll in a spiral and then tying it off at both ends.

    Thread Fringe

    • Liven up your invitation by creating a fringe made out of thread. Make a row of holes in the bottom of your paper using the end of a pair of scissors or a paper puncher. Put pieces of thread through each of the holes and tie them. You can also make a fringe by putting your thread on a needle and sewing the thread onto the paper. The fastest way to make a fringe is to sew the thread on in large, loose loops. Then when you've finished sewing, cut the bottoms of the loops off. This leaves a line of single pieces of thread that together create a fringe.

    Thread Letters

    • This technique is only for people with patience and time. Write out the letters that you want on your invitation. Make them big and fat for best results. Smear glue on the paper within the borders of the letters. Lay thread on top of the glue tracing the outline of a letter, and then follow the line of thread you've made until you fill the interior of the letter with glued-down thread. The end result is a series of bright and textured letters that spell out your message of welcome.
