- The engine oil and filter of the 2001 GMC Yukon XL should be changed as indicated by the vehicle's Oil Life System. When the system notices a decreased quality in oil, a "change engine oil" light will illuminate. Oil should be changed at least every 12 months whether indicated by the system warning light or not.
- According to the owner's manual, the tires of the Yukon XL should be rotated every 7,500 miles to ensure even wear. Gear oil levels of the front and rear axles should also be checked at the same interval and re-filled as needed to maintain the recommended amount of fluid.
- The vehicle's air filter must be replaced every 15,000 miles to ensure a supply of clean air to the motor. Drivers who often encounter dusty conditions should check and change the filter more often. A filter that appears dirty, or dark in color, is ready for replacement.
- The Yukon XL's transmission fluid needs to be drained and replaced with clean fluid after 50,000 miles. The transmission filter should be changed at the same time as the fluid.
- After 150,000 miles or 60 months of driving, whichever comes first, the radiator and cooling system needs to be completely drained, cleaned and re-filled with fresh, clean coolant.
