- 1). Drain the fuel and check the fuel filter. Look at the end of the fuel line in the fuel tank to find the fuel filter. Use your weed trimmer's manual for identifying parts.
- 2). Take the filter out through the gas tank and disconnect it from the line. Purchase a new fuel filter from a local hardware store or through the manufacturer.
- 3). Replace the fuel filter and drain the fuel from the tank. Replace the fuel and add a fuel stabilizer for keeping your engine running smoothly through the growing season.
- 1). Locate the spark plug in the center insulator. Pull the spark plug from the boot wire. Take the wire off the spark plug with your hands. The spark plug resembles a car lighter. If it looks burnt or is wet, it will need to be replaced in order for the engine to start.
- 2). Bring the spark plug to the hardware store or call your weed trimmer's manufacturer. Thread the spark plug with a gapping tool to set the gap between the ground electrode and the center of the electrode on the plug.
- 3). Tighten the spark plug into the weed trimmer with a socket wrench. Push the boot back over the spark plug until you hear a lock.
