- 1). Sprinkle cornstarch over your counter to keep the fondant from sticking. Dust your hands and rolling pin with cornstarch also to keep everything dry. Keep the cornstarch nearby just in case anything gets wet or tacky while you are working.
- 2). Separate the fondant into as many pieces as you need different colors. Knead the food coloring into the dough until the fondant is consistent in coloring. If you are not coloring your fondant, you can skip this step.
- 3). Roll out the fondant with the rolling pin onto the prepared counter until it is 1/8 of an inch thick. Use a ruler to ensure the fondant is even in thickness.
- 4). Press a large round cookie cutter into the rolled fondant. Cut out as many circles of this size as you want with the cutter. Do the same thing with the other cutters to make different sized dots. Use a small, round piping tip to create tiny polka dots.
- 5). Roll out the remaining colors of fondant and repeat the cutting process until you have as many dots as you need.
