Baby Name Announcements - What"s in a Name

When it comes to naming your baby, these days anything goes, you can even make your own name up, but most people tend to be influenced by names they have heard before, friends who they like and of course celebrities! The best site on line to start your name hunt is the government statistic site.
No really, it's not boring at all, it's fascinating.
It ranks the top 100 names chosen for the last 5 years.
So who are the top 5 for 2006?The girls are Olivia, Grace, Jessica, Ruby and Emily and the boys Jack, Thomas, Joshua, Oliver and Harry.
The boys top three have been consistent for the past 5 years but Grace has leapt 37% in popularity to move to 2nd place from 7th in 2005.
Biblical names continue to be hugely popular for the boys; Adam, Joshua, Mathew, Mark, Luke and John and of course Joseph.
But Royals are also a huge hit.
Prince William and Harry are both Top 10 and of course bonny Prince Charlie! On the less traditional names we now have the choice of celebrity actors; Ethan, George, Harrison and Ewan all in the top 100.
(Watch out for Orlando and Brad making an entry soon!) For the girls the 'Costume Drama' names are still popular; Evie, Alice, Emily, Sophie, Lizzie.
But it's the flower names that have seen the biggest increase in popularity; Lily, Daisy, Poppy, Rose.
The girls names are certainly the more unusual and led heavily by celebrities of the moment, whether actors or now reality TV.
More unusual names such as Chanel, Chantelle, Chardonnay, Britney and Ashley all have a familiar ring! Lexi is moving quickly up the rankings possibly due to the popularity of Monarch of the Glen?! Whatever name you choose, within a month, it will feel like it was the only name you could have given your baby!Just remember that they have to live with it forever and that what's cute at 6 months may not be so cute at 40 years old!
