- 1). Tie the cords that raise and lower the blinds into a knot. Keep the knot loose so you will be able to untie it later.
- 2). Pop the end cap off of the lower metal rail at the bottom of the blinds. Untie the knot in the bottom of each string that holds the blinds together.
- 3). Slide the slats off of the string and stack them on the floor.
- 4). Rest the slats on a workbench or flat surface. Measure and mark the slat where it should be trimmed. Depending on the type of blinds that you are working with, you might need to trim both sides equally to keep the blinds evenly spaced.
- 5). Cut the slat with a table saw or hand saw. Repeat with each slat.
- 6). Lightly sand the cut edges of each slat with fine grit sandpaper. Wipe away the sanding dust with a damp rag.
- 7). Trim the metal top and bottom rails to the same measurements using the table or hand saw.
- 8). Run the strings back through the slats to reassemble the blinds. Tie a knot at the end of each blind.
