Put thermal compound on the heat sink before replacing it to ensure that is properly insulated. Replace the x-clamps with new screws because the original screws that Microsoft use are too sensitive to heat and can cause the protection of this area to weaken. Fasten them to a moderately tight degree and replace the shell when you are ready.

Unfortunately Microsoft's original design included a graphics card that also couldn't handle the processing power and would overheat as well, but now that you know where to find the GPU, replacing this is a breeze.
