- 1). Wash your face twice daily with a cleanser that contains an acid such as salicylic or glycolic acid. Facial acids combat oiliness, which will help your skin appear less shiny. People with oily skin should also stick to gel cleansers instead of cream.
- 2). Apply toner to a cotton ball and wipe the cotton ball all over your face. Toners help remove residue that your cleanser left behind. Witch hazel, found in drugstores, makes an effective, natural and gentle toner.
- 3). Moisturize your skin after washing with an oil-free moisturizer. Some skin-care brands sell moisturizer with oil-combating ingredients, such as salicylic acid. Although people with oily skin may be tempted to skip this step, moisturizing your face is important for your skin's health.
- 4). Use a clay mask as needed. Clay absorbs excess oil and can also work to fight breakouts.
- 5). Apply blotting papers throughout the day, as needed. Press the paper on your face with your finger to soak up excess oil. Use each paper only once before throwing it away.
