Handmade Christmas Gifts for LDS Primary Kids

    Hand-prints Gifts

    • These gifts are easy for the younger primary children. All they need is one of their hands. They can choose from making handprints in clay, handprint coasters, a reindeer handprint or painting handprints on a canvas tote. For the canvas tote, pour a small amount of fabric paint on a paper plate. Have a variety of colors for the children to choose from. They will lay their hand flat in the paint and then firmly press it on the tote.

    Picture Frames

    • The age of the primary children will determine the choice of picture frames. The younger children can decorate a precut foam frame with crayons or markers and then add stickers such as "I Am a Child of God," stars or smiling faces. The older children can make frames with craft sticks, Mod Podge fabric or decorative paper on a wooden frame. The children can bring their favorite pictures to put in the frame.

    Candles

    • These candles are simple to make. The younger primary children will be able to make them, too. You will need Christmas cookie cutters. Make sure that the shapes you choose can stand up. You will also need honeycomb wax sheets in a variety of colors and wicks. Your local craft stores should have sheets of wax. Using the cookie cutter, the children will cut the shapes from the wax sheets. They will need two identical shapes. Sandwiching the wick between them, press the sheets together. Using a warm hair dryer will help them stick together better.

    Bookmarks

    • Bookmarks are great gifts for anyone who loves to read. The bookmark can be made from paper, wallpaper, ribbon, yarn or fabric. For paper bookmarks, cut a 2-inch strip of card stock. The children can choose from stickers or use rubber stamps for embellishment. They can also draw a pictures. Older children can string beads to decorate them. Ideas for decorating the bookmarks are almost endless.

    Other Gifts

    • The older primary children can decorate a wooden Santa sleigh that you can buy at your local craft store. After they have decorated it, they can fill it with goodies. They can also make a pencil or pen holder for someone's desk from 14 or 15 oz. can. They can decorate the cans with scrapbook paper and then attach a strip of thin cork sheet for notes.
