One of the Benefits of Stopping Smoking

Though we want to imagine that we are free, smokers are limited and controlled by their psychological and physical need for cigarettes.
One of the benefits of stopping smoking is the liberty from the limitations smoking forces on you.
We always wish to imagine we are on top of our circumstances.
Usually we may ask the question, "Who is bigger, you or that cigarette?" We consciously tell ourselves that we could quit whenever we want.
We are clearly bigger, a more potent force, when compared to those cigarettes.
But, subconsciously you know the truth.
You've doubtless tried to stop quite a few times.
And, when you failed you justified your failure by thinking that it was your decision to begin that habit once more.
The point here is that you just were not able to quit smoking.
Those cigarettes, in reality, were bigger than you.
Furthermore, those cigarettes are bigger than you for a couple of key reasons.
First, you have an entire collection of behaviors linked to smoking which are hard to overcome.
Second, the nicotine in cigarettes is definitely an addictive drug, perhaps the most addictive drug known to man.
There are behaviors connected with smoking.
Whenever you feel fatigued, nervous, on edge, you psychologically believe that the answer is to smoke another cigarette.
After eating, after drinking coffee you just know that the next action is to smoke another cigarette.
You're looking for an activity to perform with your hands.
You would like to sense a cigarette between your lips.
Reach for a cigarette.
The nicotine in cigarettes can also be addictive.
It generates a nicotine rush seconds after you inhale that cigarette smoke.
This rapid association of pleasant feelings with inhaling is psychologically addicting.
Ultimately the nicotine affects the brain and nicotine becomes necessary for you to feel good.
When nicotine is in low supply you feel weary and irritable.
Nicotine is physically addictive in this way.
To realize the benefits of stopping smoking and the amount of power cigarettes have over your life you can build a spreadsheet with the rows describing each hour you are awake each day.
The columns can be the days of the week from Sunday through Saturday.
Format the cells to produce a border about each cell.
Then print this empty worksheet out.
Always have your spreadsheet with you.
You are going to put a check mark in each box that represents a smoking or cigarette event.
Whenever you smoke, place a check mark within the box that corresponds to that hour of the day.
If you make a special trip to the store to buy cigarettes enter a check mark within that box.
After a week or two of keeping track of your smoking incidents you will admit that you are not free.
You are enslaved by cigarettes.
Those cigarettes are, definitely, superior to you.
Don't you think it's time you developed your personal "Declaration of Independence" from cigarettes? You should declare that you "are, and of right ought to be, free and independent" from the habits and addictions of nicotine.
On the list of benefits of stopping smoking is your liberty.
Work hard to realize that independence.
It's worth it.
