Did you know you can make your own canine shampoo using herbs and roots? Yes, you can actually grow most of the ingredients for a canine wash in your own garden.
Not only is this shampoo good for your dog, it can be used on your own hair.
Avoiding chemicals in dog wash is so important because, your canine has a much faster metabolism.
When you bathe your dog with chemical laden products, these chemicals are quickly absorbed into your dogs skin, and suppress your dogs immune system, making him or her more susceptible to disease.
Chemicals such as sodium lauryl sulfate (used in 95% of dog shampoo), do create a rich thick lather however, this chemical also dries your dogs skin, increases dander and can even affect your dogs internal organs.
When buying dog shampoo's, you should avoid products that rely heavily on chemicals to give the shampoo a rich lather.
Instead you will be doing your dog, and yourself a favor by buying natural products.
In recent years there have been many advances in making natural dog wash, with many of these products coming very close to providing that wonderful rich lather and suds that we all love so much.
Natural dog shampoos do come at a cost though.
It's just simple math, to figure out that using herbs and new plant technologies are much more expensive than cheap chemical ingredients.
You can reduce the cost of buying natural, by using less.
Actually many dog owners do not, do a good enough job of brushing their pets.
Brushing is such an important part of keeping your dogs coat clean and shiny.
Brushing your dog on a regular basis is so essential for removing old dead hair; dead hair often is the cause of excess odor and dander; you will also distribute your dogs natural oils, giving him a great shine and healthy skin.
You can also reduce the cost of expensive dog shampoos, by making your own homemade dog shampoo and using this homemade wash for every other bath.
If you have a garden try planting herbs such as soapwort.
Soapwort, has natural saponins, or foaming agents and can be used in your recipe.
Yucca root and leaves also contain saponis that will produce a foaming action.
Try growing Lavender, this fragrant flower will add a nice scent to your herbal dog shampoo.
Catnip is highly effective against mosquitoes and biting insects.
