Natural Acne Remedies That Work

Puberty can be a sign of trouble for most people but the sign of puberty can also show on the face - thanks to acne.

Acne vulgaris is a human skin disease that often hits during adolescence and characterized by the appearance of comedones (blackheads and whiteheads), papules (pinheads), pustules (pimples), nodules (large papules) and possibly scarring on the skin that has the densest population of sebaceous follicles such as the face, chest and the back. Usually called acne breakout, the lesions are caused by the production of hormones that lead to the over secretion of the sebaceous or oil glands which are associated with the hair follicles. The cells multiply rapidly which causes the gland's outlet to be plugged with impacted cells, thus the blackheads which develop at the site of the hair follicle. As the sebaceous gland and the hair follicle stretch even more, they rupture, producing local inflammation called the pimples.

The following are few home acne remedies that you may want to consider.

Acne can be treated two ways. The first treatment is by cleansing the face thoroughly and can be done at home. When the skin is dirty, the hair follicles get blocked so that when the dirt comes in contact with the oil from the sebaceous gland, an infection develops, which causes the skin to breakout. Instead of using chemicals to prevent acne, there are actually several acne home remedies that work.

Baking soda is not only used in baking but when applied to the face, its highly alkaline nature can prevent acne by killing the Candida bacteria that are often resistant to topical medicines. Two (2) tablespoons of baking soda mixed with 1 tablespoon of water can be an effective anti-acne solution. It can also exfoliate the skin for that smooth and healthy complexion.

For people with more sensitive skin, tea tree oil can help soothe and prevent acne. It is as effective as the benzoyl peroxide but much gentler on the skin, as it is all natural, and the reason why it is often used in beauty soaps. This anti-microbial oil can be poured on a cotton swab dipped in water and applied on the face up to three times a day.

Yoghurt and oats are not just for dieting, they can also be used for an acne-free skin. Just mix them together and apply on the face until dry. Wash your face with lukewarm water afterwards. They are also great as exfoliants.

Fresh lime juice mixed with a half glass of boiled milk can also treat blackheads and pimples, while honey and cinnamon powder can make a good paste as substitute for an overnight mud pack to eliminate blackheads.

All of these are natural so you need not worry about skin irritations and rashes. Even more, they can also be found in your homes so treating your acne is not only cheap but it can also save you from what could be another embarrassing trip to the drugstore.

For those with severe acne, an appointment with the doctor may just be the cure. The problem may be more internal as the treatment may range from getting hormonal injections to prescription antibiotics.
