Dog Tag Ideas

    Military Tags

    • The military uses dog tags to ensure that every soldier's name and personal information is on their person at all times. The same idea works for your dog or cat. The tags are made from a thick metal like aluminum and resemble the tags worn by military personnel. Pick a tag with a matte finish for a more realistic military look, or choose a darker finish that has an antique look. List the dog's name, your address, your name and your phone number on the front of the tag. You can also list just your pet's name, your name and your phone number with a special message asking the finder to contact you if the pet is found.

    Luggage Tags

    • Luggage tags are similar to military style dog tags, but without the rounded edges found on military dog tags. The tags are made from heavy-duty metal that is covered with acrylic. The acrylic gives the tag more color, available in several different colors. The contact information and pet information is engraved on the top of the acrylic side, which cuts through the acrylic and reveals the metal underneath.

    Slider Tags

    • If you keep a thin collar around your dog's neck, or if you worry about the tag falling off, then opt for a slider tag. Traditional pet tags feature a small hook that latches around the hook on the pet's collar, but regular wear and tear can cause the tag to slide off. Slider tags feature an open slot on both ends of the tag and slide directly onto the dog's collar. You have enough space to list your contact information and pet's information.

    Decorative Tags

    • Decorative pet tags feature plastic and metal construction. Look for tags featuring pop culture images or bright colors and designs, such as a pink camouflage pattern or a bright striped design with shades of orange, green and yellow.
