Tips for Training a Golden Retriever

Easy to train due to their eager, friendly natures, this breed differs from some breeds in the best ways to teach them.
The following tips will help you in training a Golden Retriever.
Goldens are very intelligent and eager to please.
Do not scold them or use punishment as a motivator because this treatment could cause your pet to avoid you.
Instead, when the animal displays a desired behavior, offer a reward.
This breed thrives on praise, but be sure to offer this praise immediately following the good behavior so that the dog associates the praise with the action.
Since members of this breed are usually very smart, they may get bored with training and not pay attention.
Many have a favorite object that they like to carry everywhere.
If this is the case, let your pet bring the beloved toy to your training session.
Having the toy present may help him or her to keep focused on you.
Several typicalmisbehaviors should be extinguished as soon as possible.
Jumping up on people could cause someone to get hurt when the dog gets bigger and capable of knocking down an adult.
Chewing is another major concern as a Golden can cause tremendous damage to your furnishings and yard if left to his or her own devices.
When unsupervised, this breed should be housed in a crate.
Another issue is staying whether with you or in your yard.
As a retriever, these dogs like to chase, and left unattended, they will soon run away.
An electronic fence or a leash is necessary when he or she is outdoors.
The stay command is of prime importance to teach your puppy in case he or she takes off when outside.
Following the tips above along with using a good training methodology will ensure that you are successful in training a Golden Retriever.
