- 1). Cut purple wrapping paper with scissors to fit around each of the four toilet paper rolls. Wrap the paper over the toilet paper rolls and secure with staples.
- 2). Tear three 4-inch strips of newspaper from top to bottom. Roll each strip lengthwise into a long, tight tube. Staple three rolled strips together and braid the strips; staple the other end. Shape the braid into a circle and staple the two stapled ends together to form a wreath.
- 3). Cover the newspaper wreath in holly leaf shapes or pine needle shapes cut from green construction paper. For a family keepsake, make the leaves by tracing and cutting out the children's hands onto green paper. Glue securely to the newspaper wreath.
- 4). Glue the four purple "candles" onto the wreath. Cut four strips of yellow tissue paper twice the length of the toilet paper tubes and 2 inches wide each. Twist each one lengthwise and scrunch down from top to bottom in an accordion fold to compact the strip. Place one into each of the candles.
- 5). Mark each Sunday by pulling the yellow tissue paper out of the candle to form the "flame." Leave each candle "lit" each week so all four paper flames are exposed on the Sunday prior to Christmas Eve.
