- If your child is lucky enough to have a birthday fall on or near Halloween, use this to your advantage and throw a Halloween birthday party. Tell parents to send their kids in Halloween costumes. Make an orange birthday cake in the shape of a pumpkin. Instead of pumpkin carving, have a pumpkin decorating activity where kids use permanent marker, glue, yarn and other crafts to make the best-looking pumpkin.
- Most kids don't associate Thanksgiving with fun, but you can change that with a Thanksgiving-themed birthday party. Instead of "Pin the Tail on the Donkey," play "Pin the Tail on the Turkey." Play "Turkey Tag," which is like regular tag except the kids must say "gobble, gobble" throughout the entire game. Have a pumpkin seed spitting contest or a contest to see who can throw a squash the farthest. Make a birthday cake in the shape of a turkey.
- Show kids the fun of autumn by organizing a party around the theme of the weather. Rake as many leaves as you can into your yard and let the kids have a leaf fight. Make invitations in the shape of leaves. Order silk leaves from a party store and spread them on the floor of the house. Organize a craft station where kids find the biggest leaf they can and iron it between two pieces of wax paper, with help from an adult.
- If you child is a particularly big baseball fan, organize a birthday party around the theme of the Fall Classic. Head to a local park and supervise a game of softball or kickball among the kids. Let students make their own baseball cards using cardboard and markers. Give out packs of baseball cards in loot bags. Order a birthday cake with the logo of your child's favorite baseball team. Have a "World Series" of any party game you can think of.
