- 1). Install the LP tank. Place the tank in the truck's bed. Drill through the tank's mounting brackets and into the truck bed. Place the mounting bolts into the holes and tighten them with a wrench. Drill another hole through the floor of the truck bed to run the fuel line through. Install a hose to the "vapor out" nipple of the LP tank and secure it with a hose clamp. Tighten the clamp with a screwdriver. Run this hose to the engine bay through the hole you drilled in the truck bed. Fasten the hose along the frame work with plastic zip ties.
- 2). Install the LP converter. Find the heater hoses coming out of your truck's engine and into its fire wall. Place a catch can under the hoses. Cut the hose that goes from the water pump to the heater with a razor-blade knife. Place each of the cut hose ends onto the converter's fittings. Place a hose clamp onto each of the connections. Tighten them both with a screwdriver. Place the hose from the tank's "vapor out" nipple onto the converter's "vapor in" nipple and secure it with a hose clamp.
- 3). Remove the carburetor. Remove the air cleaner. Turning the wing nut on the top of the housing counterclockwise with your hand. Set the cleaner aside. Remove the throttle linkage by pulling it off of the carburetor with your hands. Using a wrench, remove the four mounting bolts from the base and lift it off of the engine. Place it on a bench.
- 4). Install the spud-in jet. Place a drill bit into the drill motor and drill a hole into the throat (the side of the carburetor where the air goes in) of the carburetor. Insert a tap and thread the hole you just drilled. Place Teflon tape onto the jet's threads and screw it into the tapped hole. Tighten the jet with a wrench until the beveled end of the jet points down into the carburetor's throat. Spray the throat with carburetor cleaner to remove any metal shavings. Replace the carburetor.
- 5). Connect the fuel hose. Connect one end of a rubber hose to the "vapor out" nipple of the converter and the other end to the newly installed jet you on the carburetor. Attach both ends with hose clamps and tighten.
- 6). Install the on/off valve. Locate the metal fuel line from the truck's fuel pump to the carburetor. Cut the line in the middle with a pipe cutter. Place the on/off valve between the sections of fuel line and secure with hose clamps.
- 7). Wire the system. Run wire from the converter's electrical connection through a grommet in the truck's fire wall and into the driver's compartment. Using the wire stripper, strip the end of the wire and crimp a terminal end onto the wire with a crimping pliers.
- 8). Install the switch. Mount the switch on the dash by drilling and installing screws. Attach the wire from the converter to the terminal on the switch. Run wire from the switch to the fuse box. Attach this wire by stripping and installing terminal ends onto it. Connect it to the switch and to the fuse box.
