- 1). Plant your squash in an area of full sun and well-drained, rich soil. Fertilize the squash plant regularly to keep it healthy and ensure it reaches its maximum potential.
- 2). Water your squash regularly, especially during dry spells and when the squash is growing. Water deeply; keep the soil around the squash moist but not wet.
- 3). Weed around the squash plant; this is extremely important during the early growth stage. Add a layer of compost or mulch to keep the weeds down and to provide the plant with food.
- 4). Remove the smaller vines to promote larger growth. Train the remaining vines to go in the direction you want. Move the vines as needed but not more than a little bit each day.
