Tips for Training a Dog for Pet Fencing

The thing about installing Colorado pet fencing is that you can't just have Denver fencing contractors put it up and let your animals run free right away. You have to train them to use it properly. In addition to providing ample room for your pet to run around while also keeping them safe, it allows for unobstructed views from your property as the entire fence is invisible.

How it works is that the Colorado pet fencing involves an invisible underground barrier that is connected to a transmitter which is paired up with your dog's collar. When your pet tries to cross over the barrier, they'll receive a little static correct that's uncomfortable but doesn't hurt. Denver fencing contractors will do all the installation, but you're responsible for training your dog how to manage it.

An adult dog can be trained to use the Colorado pet fencing at any time, but if you have a puppy, wait until he's at least 5 months old before you begin. Especially with puppies, you have to be extremely patient and have no expectations for how long the training is going to take. When you're training, all Denver fencing contractors will suggest being firm and consistent while making it as fun as possible.

When you're doing training for the Colorado pet fencing, do it in daily short spurts of about 10 minutes followed by a few minutes of play time to show your dog that it's not a punishment, then give him a reward after. Start by putting him on a leash and walking him near the boundary. The Colorado pet fencing will trigger, issuing a warning beep. Lead him back into the €safe zone.€ Do this a couple of times all along the border.

Next comes the static test. Walk your pet to the boundary of the Colorado pet fencing, then when he gets the static touch, move him back to the safe zone. Some dogs will easily get it and not return back to the border while others will need the process repeated a few times. Most types of Colorado pet fencing comes with a collar that allows for different levels of static, so you can turn it up or down depending on your preference. There's no rush on the training. Be calm, use a happy tone, and of course, give him tiny treats when he obeys.

Your dog may easily pick up where the borders of the Colorado pet fencing are while others will need a little more time. However, don't let your dog off leash until you're certain he understands where these borders are and will respect them. Even then, he should not go unsupervised. When used properly, Colorado pet fencing can be a huge asset for both you and your pet.
